Dallas-area porch extension + outdoor kitchen

New gable-roof porch extension on a white brick Dallas-area home, with stone post bases and the pool in front, under construction
The new cover extends off the back of the house under a gable roof, shingled to match the existing roof.

This homeowner already had the pool and hot tub. What the backyard was missing was shade and a place to cook. We extended the back of the house with a fully covered porch, roofed with shingles matched to the existing roof, and set every cedar post on a custom stone base for looks and durability. Under it, a new outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill, refrigerator and quartz countertop. Together it turns the pool area into a finished backyard and adds real value to the home.

Building for Dallas backyards

Shade is the upgrade. A pool gets used a lot more when there's somewhere to get out of the Texas sun. A covered porch tied into the house gives you that without a separate structure across the yard.

Match the house. A cover that ties into the existing roofline and matches the shingles looks like it was always there. That's what buyers notice, and it's why this kind of project adds value.

Built for clay soil. North Texas clay moves. Slab extensions, post footings and drainage are planned around it so the new work stays level with the old.

Questions

Dallas FAQs

How much does a covered patio with an outdoor kitchen cost in Dallas?

The project on this page, a covered porch extension with stone post bases and an outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill, refrigerator and quartz countertop, runs about $35,000–$40,000 complete. A scaled-back version is doable for about $25,000–$30,000. Size, appliances, countertop and finishes move the number most.

Can you match my existing roof?

Yes. That's how this one was built: the new cover ties into the existing roofline and is shingled to match, so it reads as part of the house instead of an add-on.

Do I need a permit or HOA approval?

Often, yes. Attached patio covers usually need a city permit in Dallas and most DFW cities, and many HOAs require their own approval. We'll go over what your project needs during the free estimate.
